Discovery RA vs. Discovery
Both apps use the same sensors, with a different data collection mode. Discovery RA supports automatic and manual recording; Discovery uses automatic only. A sensor can be paired with only one app at a time. To move a sensor from Discovery RA to Discovery, change its session mode to automatic and then Unpair it in Discovery RA.
Get started
- If Sibel did not supply an iPad, download Discovery RA from the Apple App Store.
- Open the app and select Sign Up. Enter a username, email address and password. You need an internet connection. If sign-up fails with your institutional email, contact us.
- Enter a Session ID and select Start Session. Data is labeled with this Session ID.
- Select + Add Sensors, find the sensor by its serial number and select Pair if asked. Keep sensors within 2 meters of the iPad. You can pair up to 8 sensors at once.
If you miss the iPad’s Bluetooth pairing prompt, go to iPad Settings > Bluetooth, forget the sensor, and pair it again.
Getting the data off the iPad
If your study uploads to the cloud: in Discovery RA, go to Settings > Cloud and check that Data Upload and Debug Log Upload are on, as your study setup instructions say. Keep the iPad unlocked, on Wi-Fi and with the app open until Pending Upload reaches zero. If uploads stop, select Reset Upload Cache. This does not delete data.
If your study keeps files locally: open the iPad’s Files app > On My iPad > Discovery RA. The shrd folder holds the raw data, event holds any events you added, and log holds app logs. You can ignore Storage. Move files with AirDrop or a computer.
When you contact us about a problem, the files in the log folder help us most. They record app actions, not subject data.
The parser
- Sibel sends the parser as a .zip for Windows, macOS or Linux. Tell us which system you use.
- It runs from the command prompt or terminal. The package includes instructions.
- If the parser is blocked on a managed computer, contact your IT department and us.
- Large files can take several minutes. Wait for processing to finish before opening the output folder.
