ADAM records movement (3-axis accelerometer) and skin temperature. It has no microphone and does not record audio. A full charge lasts about 36 hours, and ADAM records whenever it is off the charger, so return it to the charger between wear sessions.
At a glance
| Measures | 3-axis accelerometer (±4 g) and skin temperature (23 to 43 °C, 73 to 109 °F) |
| Audio | None. ADAM has no microphone. |
| Battery | About 36 hours per full charge. About 5 hours to charge from empty. |
| Water | Splash resistant (IP44). Fine for hand washing. Remove it for showering, bathing or swimming. |
| Adhesive | Single use. Use a new adhesive every time the sensor goes back on. |
| Placement | Back of the hand or the suprasternal notch, as set in your study’s Quick Start Guide |
When does ADAM record?
- ADAM starts recording as soon as it comes off the charger, whether or not someone is wearing it. Put it back on the charger, or in Ship Mode, when it is not being worn.
- If it detects no movement for 3 hours, it pauses recording until it moves again.
- Plan wear sessions around the battery. Charge and sync at least every 36 hours.
Adhesive and glove
- To attach: peel one side of the clear liner, place the sensor on the adhesive with the sensor’s tab opposite the liner flap, then peel off the rest of the liner.
- For back-of-hand wear, use the glove over the sensor to help it stay on, especially during scratching. It can come off for hand washing. Subjects can machine wash it on cold.
- To remove: peel slowly using the tab on the bottom of the sensor. Always pull by the tab. Throw the adhesive away and wipe the sensor clean.
Accelerometer axes
With the ADAM tail pointing vertically along the body midline on a standing person: X is left to right, Y is up and down (positive toward the head), and Z is front to back (positive toward the front).
Storage
Keep ADAM on the charger or in Ship Mode when not in use. Store at −15 to 43 °C (5 to 109 °F).
